Getting to know the Moose...

The moose? Unless you have known me since I was 12 years old, you may not know that my nickname in my family is "Moose". I was not given this nickname for the typical reasons some may be called Moose.

I was a bit of a tomboy when I was younger. Best example of how much so, I remember when I broke my arm when I was around 9 years old. My parents brought me to the Emergency Room. The nurse asked me; "what's your name young man?" Rough! To the nurses defense, I was in my softball uniform with a baseball hat and I had short hair. I looked like a boy. Well thankfully, I didn't look that way for long.

Puberty struck! I know to much info for the first blog isn't it, LOL. Well, when I was around 11 or 12 I began to resemble a girl. I was blessed with my womanly curves early. "A beautiful young lady" my parents have told me. Which is why the nickname. Confused aren't you?

My dad used to be in the Army and one of the many places he served was Korea. The GI's used to call the young ladies in Korea "Moose". This was GI slang for a Korean word which means young lady. So once I started looking like a young lady, my dad began calling me Moose.

I have had several people in my life who were appalled of the fact that my family calls me Moose. The one it bugged the most was my Young Women's President, Lynn Anderson. It drover her NUTS every time she heard my dad call me that. I do not take any offense to it, the nickname was derived from love. I have grown into some of the stereotypes that are generally associated with the nickname "Moose". It didn't help matters that I did not grow into a petite flower of a woman. I am a strong, tall, clumsy woman! I enjoy who I am. I have been able to help others because of my height and strength and have provided great amusement with my clumsiness.

Now you know why, for those who will follow my blog, you will be getting to know the "Moose"!
