It's "Sprout" Day

Picture is a little old and didn't transfer well, but this is classic Faith!

You’ve had a birthday, shout hooray!
We’re going to sing to you today!
One year older and wiser too!
Happy Birthday to you!

Today is my bestest friend’s birthday!

Faith and I have been friends since we were somewhere around 5 years old. We have been through some awesome times and not so awesome times. We have lived anywhere from 2 miles apart to over 2000 miles apart and our friendship has weathered the miles.

I thought about posting this sweet picture of us which was taken when we were around 12 years old and we were at church. Brother Adams took pictures of each of us. This picture was of Faith and I together reading the scriptures. I couldn’t find it this morning. It’s just as well. I found a picture which was taken in October 1985. This picture reflects just as much of Faith’s personality as the one of her reading the scriptures. Bonus-you can’t help but smile!

Faith is one of the best people that I know. She genuinely cares for everyone and that is not an exaggeration. If she saw a stranger in need she would do everything possible to help. She is a woman of infinite faith and not just because it is her name. She knows her Heavenly Father and accepts His great plan for her unconditionally. She has the most positive, upbeat sense of humor. I think I can probably count the times I have seen anything but a smile on her face on just one hand. Remember, I have known her around 35 years. That in itself says a lot. She is also quite the prankster. There have been many a tree, car, tent, etc that has been given the Faith signature of toilet paper ALL OVER. She has found more uses for shaving cream, toothpaste and saran wrap that I am sure the manufacturers never would have thought of.

Somewhere in high school the company which does the Green Giant foods came out with a character for their commercials named “Sprout”. That has been my nickname for Faith ever since. I am 5’9” and Faith is, we’ll just say, 5 feet tall. So we joked that we looked like the Green Giant and Sprout together.

We met because our mothers had the foresight to join the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints which is where Faith and I met. We both love music. She was always involved in Band and I in chorus, but music none the less. We each had crushes on missionaries around the same time, she on Elder Gillespie and I on Elder Kessler. We both enjoyed Seminary and Super Saturdays. I think she will agree some of the highlight activities of our teen years were Girls Camp and Youth Conferences. She helped get me a job at Scalibrini when she worked there. She introduced me to Special K on yogurt is yummy. We both loved hanging out with Kyle Lynch in high school. Oh, we both had crushes on Ted Perry too; which we took art lessons with. Even now we each have the same disease, how many friends can say that. I know, not something to brag about, but how weird that we each have it. Oh, she also LOVES Curious George.

I could go on and on about all the weird and great things about her. The best way to describe her is that Faith is just Faith!

I love you Faith. I hope you have the greatest birthday ever. Thank you for blessing my life with your friendship for so many years.
